My first business as a pre-teen was a backyard bike shop. I use to daydream of a pollution-free planet, where the brilliance of the human mind connects with our natural resources to invent and create the solutions to pollution. Some of these are here right now -- and its up to us to support and make use of this fabulous technology. I have followed the development of hybrid-power bicycles, and have tested most of them.
As of 2005, the Lashout is without peer when you consider value, reliability, fun, and performance. I love how it is a conventional bicycle, making full use of the over one hundred years of bicycle evolution. The Iacoca E-bike, for example, while a beautiful and sophisticated machine, is a device unto itself, with many propriety parts not available in bike shops. It is too heavy, too expensive (twice as much), and wont even fit on a conventional bike rack. But if you're looking for more of an electric motorcycle without any pedaling the Iacoca Ebike may be what you want. The Giant LaFree requires you to pedal to get the power -- like a treadmill -- and thus is not nearly as versatile or as much fun. The various hub-motor Chinese bikes are hardly worthy of consideration or comment as they break down easily and don't perform properly. The Tidalforce bikes are very nice,if a little overbuilt, but at $2500-3500, are not for must of us. As a power-assisted hybrid bicycle however, I think the Lashout is the way to go at any price. The other market entries do not freewheel, one of the greatest pleasures of cycling. Plus, the Lashout is a real bike, so the parts are available at any bike store or super-center (The electric parts which rarely break are readily available). So until there is a fuel cell bike, the low cost of the Lashout is a fabulous way to ride the wave of the future now. The Lashout bike employs a perfect balance of power, pedaling, and free-wheeling, so it is actually a tri-power machine. You can pedal or power on the flats, power up the hills, and freewheel down at 35 mph! Once you "wire" the bike, the seamless integration of the power system will amaze you in its simplicity, brilliance and refinement. Power, performance, excitement; zero-emission transportation at a price you can afford
.As Fitness and Cycling magazine quipped "they're like tape-ing the corners of your mouth up to your ears Pure Fun!
Do the Math -- it's a No-brainer!
AAA has calculated that the ACTUAL costs of driving are close to $1 a mile! When you include depreciation, maintenance, repairs, gas and oil, loan costs, insurance, license and registration, taxes, parking, etc. the costs are alot more than one might think. Imagine throwing a dollar out the window every single mile you drive! Conversely, your electric bike will go 20 miles for about a nickel, requires no dmv, license, insurance, or gas -- very little maintenance or repair, and can be parked anywhere. If you replaced your completely with your bike, you'd pay for it in less than a month. If you rode 7 miles a day, you'd pay for your bike in just four months. And the invaluable part of the equation is the joy it will put in your heart.
