eMojo has raised its game to a whole new level with the new Cougar. Excellent build quality, Stunning good looks, quality parts, and an absolute thrill to ride ... Anywhere! Giant Wow Factor. I appreciate the through-frame cabling for the hydraulic brakes and electronics, the comfort of the front and rear lock-out suspension both on and off-road, and the beautiful purpose-built frame with Sports-Car handling. I just took a 38-mile ride on it -- mostly over hills and dales, but also over the entire Shelf Road trail overlooking Ojai, and still had battery life remaining. I used every one of the 27 trigger-shifting Shimano Altus gears, 5 levels of assist, and plenty of throttle. I appreciate that eMojo has under-stated their Specifications, yet over-delivered on this bike -- rare in the e-Bike industry.
My friend's Haibike @ $6500!
During part of the ride, I traded off with my friend's $6500 Haibike Enduro, and it was fascinating to hear him admit that he liked the Cougar more -- especially on the pavement! Over the hills and dales, I was mostly using Assist level 4 and 5 on the big Chainwheel in front and 7, 8, and 9 on the rear Sprocket, as we were riding fast at 20+ mph. But on the trail, I was down on the small front Chainwheel, using the lower gears and assist levels, and the throttle. I truly appreciated the versatility of having all of those options. The High-Torque Bafang Motor provided plenty of power and pulled the hills nicely. This long and varied ride helped me understand the intelligence developed behind the controller, and gave me confidence that the 500 Watt/Hour Lithium Ion battery was plenty sufficient and exceeded eMojo's modest ratings. The gel saddle, wide handlebars with stitched faux-leather ergo grips, flat Wellgo pedals, and all-terrain Kenda tires all made the ride comfy -- even for my senior body. I really like the solid brazed on Kickstand guide on the rear chain-stay! As picky as I am about e-Bikes after 23 years in the business, I really love the new Cougar, so it is currently my personal Go-to machine!
